Gorey Pier Stabilisation Works – Update

Ports of Jersey has recently issued the following update:

The ground investigation works are progressing well. We have completed all of the twelve trial pits, two of the four hand pits in the pier wall and the three bore holes at the base of the harbour wall.   Activities coming up    Starting today, we will begin drilling bore holes in the pier arm. There will be a total of seven bore holes: three on the pier arm and four on the pier head. Please be aware that this work may cause some noise disturbance due to the drill and compressor. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. Drilling will be conducted between 8am and 6pm, Monday to Friday, and we will strive to complete this work as quickly as possible.   Tomorrow, we will start on the last two hand pits on the pier wall, following the disassembly and reassembly of the scaffolding to new locations.   For the next two weeks, access to vehicles on the pier arm will be restricted to deliveries only. This is necessary to ensure the safety of both the contractors and pier users, given the narrow width of the pier.   The final stage of the ground investigation works will involve injecting a blue water-tracing dye into the pier at several locations to track water movement through the voids. This dye is non-toxic and biodegradable, making it safe for the environment.   Thank you for your understanding as we carry out these essential works.
