Church Cemetery – Autumn Lady’s Tresses

At this time of year a number of orchids come into flower in our Church Cemetery. Known as Autumn Lady’s Tresses (Spiranthus spiralis) these are protected under Schedule 8 of the Wildlife (Jersey) Law 2021 and so we will not be cutting/mowing certain areas until they have finished flowering in a couple of weeks time.

Autumn Lady’s Tresses are a rare native wild orchid and we are very fortunate to have them growing in our Cemetery. Please be assured that once the flowering is over we will revert to cutting and mowing the Cemetery.
