St Catherine’s Breakwater Stabilisation Works – Update

In August Ports of Jersey advised that they would be submitting plans to carry out ground investigations on the slipway and buttress at St Catherine’s Breakwater. At the time, they anticipated starting the work at the end of October. However, the planning process has taken longer than expected, and the schedule has now shifted. Ports of Jersey currently expect to begin the investigations in December.

Ports of Jersey will share a more detailed timeline next month, including clearer information on how the works may affect users during that period. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to get in touch with them.

The three main areas of investigation are as follows:

  1. Slipway surface cobbles – movement of the surface cobbles is evident by the loss of pointing material
  2. Slipway wall – evidence of voiding and under cutting can be seen in the wall of the slipway
  3. Voiding in the buttress. Interim repairs were undertaken in 2024 but further investigations are required to provide a long term solution
