Kerbside Recycling to be introduced later in the year……
In September 2021 a Parish Assembly was held to determine whether the Parish should introduce Kerbside Recycling, the vote was 37 in favour, 4 against and an abstention. The Parish then asked businesses to tender for the contract. Unfortunately, at the time, and in subsequent years, no suitable contractors were able to tender. However, in early 2025 the Parish became aware of two suitable contractors who were in a position to submit tenders.
Following their submissions the Parish Assembly agreed at its meeting on 17th July 2025 to include the cost of kerbside recycling within the agreed rates for the year.
The Connétable of St. Martin stated:
I am delighted that the Parish has been able to deliver on an initiative that was overwhelmingly voted for in 2021. Kerbside recycling is already part of life in 9 other parishes, and St. Martin is pleased to be joining this near island wide effort to reduce, re-use and recycle. We hope that the convenience of kerbside recycling will ensure a good level of uptake and further supplement the existing Bring Bank facilities at the Village Green.
I should like to express my sincere thanks to Parishioners for their patience and support as we sought the means to deliver this important initiative.
It is hoped to finalise the contract in the near future and introduce kerbside recycling towards the latter part of the year. Regular updates will be issued to parishioners as plans progress.
