Gorey Pier Stabilisation Works – Further Update from Ports of Jersey

Thank you to everyone who joined us at Gorey Pier last Friday for the drop-in session. It was great to see such a strong turnout and hear your thoughts in person. For those who couldn’t make it, here’s a quick update on the stabilisation project and what’s coming next.

Summer investigations and initial findings
Over the summer, we carried out ground investigations along the pier arm and head to assess its structural stability. These findings are now being analysed by Hartigan Structural Engineers, and early results suggest that targeted maintenance and upgrades will be beneficial over the coming years.

This new data, alongside previous and ongoing non-intrusive surveys, is helping us determine the most suitable methods to address the pier’s deterioration.

Phase 1: Landing stage removal
We’re now progressing with plans to remove the landing stage as the first phase of the stabilisation works. A planning application will be submitted shortly for:

  • Removal of the upper deck and support pillars
  • Installation of temporary support bracing from the lower deck to the original pier structure

These works are expected to be carried out from the seaward side, minimising disruption to pier-side activities. However, please note that the pier head (from the security gate) will need to be closed during demolition.

Subject to planning approval, works are anticipated to begin around March/April 2026, with completion before the summer season.

Vessel safety and navigation
We’re also working on plans to ensure the area remains safe for vessels and navigation once the upper deck is removed.

What’s next
We’ll host another update session early in the new year, once planning decisions are confirmed and a contractor is appointed. At that point, we’ll share a detailed schedule and methodology for the works.

Parking feedback
Some of you raised concerns about current parking restrictions on the pier arm and bulwarks. We’ll be sending out a short survey soon to gather wider feedback and ensure user needs are considered.

Thank you again for your continued support and engagement. If you have any questions in the meantime, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
