Gorey Pier – Works Update on Landing Stage Removal

Ports of Jersey is working closely with Jersey Demolition Contractors to prepare for the commencement of the landing stage removal works.

A detailed Demolition Construction Environmental Management Plan (DCEMP) has been submitted to the Planning Department. This is a condition of the planning decision and must be formally approved before works can begin.

Pending the DCEMP sign-off Ports of Jersey intend to start setting up the site at the end of April, with works commencing early May.

What to Expect on Site

During the works, users can expect the following:

  • Pier head closure: The pier head (the section beyond the Thai Café) will be closed to the public for the duration of the works.
  • Noise: There may be occasional noise associated with demolition activities but this will be limited to: 8:00am – 6:00pm Monday to Friday and when required 8:00am – 1:00pm on a Saturday.
  • Parking restrictions: Temporary suspension of some permit parking spaces, permit holders may use public parking spaces on the pier during this time.
  • Plant and machinery movements: Coordinated movements of machinery along the pier.

Works Methodology and Access

To enable the safe removal of the landing stage, a temporary scaffolding crash deck will be installed beneath the upper concrete deck and removed following demolition.

All materials will be removed via skip lorries travelling along the pier. Users of the pier arm may experience short delays while skips are loaded and unloaded. Each loading/unloading operation is expected to take approximately 5–10 minutes, the skip will be positioned in the blue-marked parking bays near the end of the pier, this area will also be used for site welfare unit and lay down of materials.

Ports of Jersey will continue to work closely with regular pier users to minimise disruption and are happy to address any questions or concerns you may have. Please contact Kim Drean via [email protected]
