Storm Goretti – Advice for Parishioners
Jersey Met Office has issued a RED warning notice for a significant increase in wind speed from 6pm to upwards of 85 knots. This will deliver a W to SW violent storm F11. High tide for St Helier is due at 10pm that, accompanied with an expected storm surge, presents risk of waves in the 15-20ft range.
Please ‘stay at home’ from 6pm onwards until the winds have abated which is expected to be at dawn on Friday morning. The Airport and other businesses will close at 6pm today.
If you have any loose items of furniture in your garden, including bins, please ensure these are secured or stored away safely.
If you are in a coastal flood risk area you may wish to consider purchasing some sand bags from a suitable supplier such as AAL who can be contacted on 077977 715404. High tide is expected at 10pm.
If you are driving around the Parish and notice any trees fallen or debris obstructing the road, we would recommend that you contact the Government of Jersey on 725351, States of Jersey Police on 612612, option 2 and 4, or the St Martin Duty Centenier on 07797 717799.
If you require a tree surgeon to clear away debris we have provided contact details for a range of contractors as detailed below. This is for information purposes only and should not be considered a recommendation.
Should there be an emergency or an immediate threat to life please call 999. However, if you are in need of more general assistance please contact the Duty Centenier in the first instance on 07797 717 799 or the Parish Office on 853951.
Government departments, emergency responders, agencies and external stakeholders (e.g. utility providers) are at heightened readiness consistent with the Severe Weather Plan and the currently forecast position. Additional staff cover has been arranged and pre-positioning of people and / or equipment is taking place during the course of today.
