Gorey Pier landing stage demolition project nears completion
Ports of Jersey are pleased to advise that they have made significant progress over the past month and are in the final stage of the Phase 1 project to remove the old landing stage.
One of the technical elements of the works, the installation of the temporary concrete edge beam, has been successfully completed. This involved carefully integrating the new structure with the existing listed pier, and the finished result provides a secure and sympathetic enhancement to the harbour infrastructure.
As part of this phase Ports of Jersey also committed to resurface the pedestrian walkway. When the old surface was taken up recently, it revealed a poor quality substrate which was not suitable to lay new asphalt on. Therefore, Ports of Jersey has instructed additional work to replace the old substrate with a new, stable foundation first before laying the final top surface. This will ensure that there is a high quality and durable walkway.
In this Phase 1 of the wider Gorey Pier improvements programme, the landing stage removal supports safer harbour operations for an interim period of time while longer term plans for Gorey Pier are developed.
Once the demolition works are complete, Ports of Jersey Marine Operations team will install two Special Marks beacons on the outer edge of the remaining concrete base to define the extent of the submerged structure when covered by the tide.
As this phase draws to a close, Ports of Jersey would like to thank all harbour users and the local community for your continued patience during the work.
